JTEC is a specialized K–12 program within Lamar County Schools serving students from Baxterville, Purvis, Sumrall, Lumberton, and Oak Grove. This campus provides a structured, highly individualized learning environment where teachers and staff are committed to supporting the whole child through a dedicated combination of academic guidance, weekly social-emotional learning, and positive behavioral interventions and supports. By focusing on building strong relationships and fostering a safe, encouraging academic environment, we empower every student to achieve personal growth, take responsibility, and find lasting success.

Academic Programs

  • Individualized, standards-based instruction designed to meet each student's academic needs
  • Online coursework through Edgenuity for middle and high school students, with teacher support and academic guidance
  • Teacher-led instruction and individualized academic support for elementary students
  • Reading and math intervention based on student assessment data and identified areas of need
  • Special education services and accommodations provided in accordance with each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP)
  • District and state assessments administered as required for each student's grade level and course enrollment
  • Ongoing progress monitoring and communication with students' home schools to support academic success and a successful transition back to the traditional school setting

Student Support Services

  • Weekly social-emotional learning (SEL) focused on developing positive decision-making, self-management, and interpersonal skills
  • Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) to recognize and encourage positive behavior
  • Individualized academic and behavioral support based on each student's needs
  • School counseling services to support students' academic, social, and emotional growth
  • Collaboration with home schools, families, and district personnel to provide continuity of services and support
  • Structured support to help students develop responsibility, improve behavior, and successfully transition back to their home school

Student Progress and Communication

  • Student academic progress is monitored weekly throughout placement at JTEC
  • Weekly progress updates are provided to parents/guardians to keep families informed of academic progress, behavior, and overall performance
  • Academic progress and grades are communicated regularly with each student's home school
  • JTEC staff collaborate with home school personnel to address academic, behavioral, and individual student needs
  • Parents/guardians are contacted as needed regarding concerns, accomplishments, attendance, or changes in student progress
  • Ongoing communication between JTEC, families, and home schools supports each student's successful transition back to the traditional school setting

Testing and Academic Interventions

  • Students participate in applicable district and state assessments based on grade level and course enrollment
  • Academic screeners and diagnostic assessments are used to identify individual areas of strength and need
  • Targeted reading and math interventions are provided based on assessment data and student performance
  • Student progress is monitored regularly to evaluate growth and guide instructional decisions
  • JTEC staff collaborate with home schools to ensure required testing, accommodations, and academic supports are provided

Behavior and Expectations

  • Students are expected to demonstrate respect, responsibility, and appropriate behavior throughout the school day
  • Consistent attendance, active participation, and academic effort are essential to student success
  • JTEC maintains a structured learning environment with clear and consistent expectations
  • Positive behavior and student growth are encouraged and recognized through PBIS
  • Students are supported in developing positive decision-making, self-management, and problem-solving skills
  • Academic progress, attendance, and behavior are monitored throughout each student's placement
  • Students work toward meeting individualized goals and successfully transitioning back to their home school
